A. Saving lives, now and in the future:

NSDO is working in South Sudan to deliver timely and effective humanitarian aid to help people affected by the conflict;

NSDO develops emergency preparedness plans and participates in coordination efforts with other humanitarian agencies, including through the U.N. South Sudan Humanitarian Fund to identify effective action in response to sudden crises.

Our operations have been covering to date six major zones: Upper Nile, Warrap, Eastern Equatoria, Central Equatoria, Unity, and Western Equatoria.

Since 2017, we have been working with South Sudanese communities to recover from emergencies and strengthen their resilience to future challenges. In response to COVID 19, we’ve adapted our programs in order to continue working with communities.

In 2022, NSDO’s humanitarian assistance in the country has reached out over 600.000 South Sudanese people in need, including est. 200,000 children and adolescents, through various initiatives such as food security and livelihood, health and nutrition, protection, education, GBV prevention, civic education, peace education, climate change action, water, sanitation and hygiene among others.

We work with South Sudanese internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees and host communities. With diverse projects in afore listed sectors, we have an integrated approach in mind, from emergency, relief, transition to recovery.

B. Building resilience

NSDO is striving to help people get back on their feet. We are making sure children don’t miss out on education, supporting people to establish and rebuild trades and livelihoods, and helping communities to set up and run local infrastructure, including water treatment facilities.

C. Supporting women and men

Sexual violence is under-reported in South Sudan, but in reality, is rife and often used as a weapon of war. NSDO is helping women to access medical support and legal advice and providing safe spaces where they can come together to hold authorities to account and push for their rights to be respected. We provide women, who usually take responsibility for running households but receive little decision-making power, with opportunities to gain economic independence through agriculture, TEVT and other FSL opportunities.
